Ella Chen

Ella Chen, (Chinese: 陳嘉樺, born in June 1981), is the oldest member of the Taiwanese girl pop group S.H.E. She was voted as Taiwan's most unpretentious artist in 2007 by online fans. On August 8, 2000, Ella won the 'Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest' organized by the HIM International Music in search of new artists to sing under their label. Despite being entered into the contest without her knowledge, Ella's deep and beautiful voice helped propel her through to the final round.

Subsequently, Ella entered the entertainment industry, starting with her first drama 'Magical Love' in 2002 in which she showed her talents not only in singing but also in acting. In 2003, Ella was chosen as the female lead character in 'The Rose'. Her band mates, Selina Ren and Hebe Tien played supporting roles in the same show. The drama became a big hit in Taiwan. After a number of highly successful album releases and concerts all over Taiwan, S.H.E rose to the top with the drama 'Reaching for the Stars' staring all three female band members.

On May 5th 2012, Ella married Alvin Lai from Malaysia in one of the most publicized weddings in Taiwanese history.
