Company Profile:
Established in 1896, NFPA's mission is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.
A material that is not prone to generate impact sparks under conditions of use.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that produces a lethal dose or lethal concentration that falls within any of the following categories: (1) a chemical that has a median lethal dose (LD50) of 50 mg/kg or less of body weight when administered orally to albino rats weighing between 200 g and 300 g each; (2) a chemical that has a median lethal dose (LD50) of 200 mg/kg or less of body weight when administered by continuous contact for 24 hours, or less if death occurs within 24 hours, with the bare skin of albino rabbits weighing between 2 kg and 3 kg each or albino rats weighing 200 g to 300 g each; (3) a chemical that has a median lethal concentration (LC50) in air of 200 parts per million by volume or less of gas or vapor, or 2 mg/L or less of mist, fume, or dust, when administered by continuous inhalation for 1 hour, or less if death occurs within 1 hour, to albino rats weighing between 200 g and 300 g each.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that reflects and returns a relatively high proportion of light in a direction close to the direction from which it came.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that will maintain combustion under specified environmental conditions.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that, by itself, is readily capable of detonation, explosive decomposition, or explosive reaction at normal or elevated temperatures and pressures.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that, in the form in which it is used and under normal conditions anticipated, will not ignite, burn, support combustion, or release flammable vapors when subjected to fire or heat. Materials that are reported as passing ASTM E 136, StandardTestMethodforBehaviorofMaterialsinaVerticalTubeFurnaceat750°C, shall be considered noncombustible materials.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that, in the form in which it is used and under the conditions anticipated, will ignite and burn; a material that does not meet the definition of noncombustible or limited-combustible.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that, when in contact with an oxidizer, can cause hazardous reactions or can promote or initiate decomposition of the oxidizer.
Industry:Fire safety
A material that, when in contact with an oxidizer, will not react with the oxidizer or promote or initiate its decomposition.
Industry:Fire safety
A material used as a continuous protective covering around one or more insulated conductors.
